My Pursuit of Wellness
In early 2003, after a year of exhaustion, chronic pain, poking, proding, and testing, a medical doctor finally diagnosed me with a condition called Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. I started reading labels, purging my life of unnecessary chemicals and being mindful of what I put on, in, and around my body.
Over the following decade I had to continuously learn about natural, less-toxic alternatives to everything I needed to function and plan each venture out of the house with time to rest and recover.
Over the years, I had found temporary relief by means of herbs, essential oils, biofeedback sessions, ionic foot baths, and occasional food 'cleanses'.
In the fall of 2012, I met someone named Adam Roberts on the playground of my son's preschool. It changed my life. He is the owner of Herbal Health & Wellness in Franklin, TN. He uses a Chinese Medicine approach to the body for finding the source of a problem rather than trying to treat symptoms. With his advanced method of muscle testing the body, he can customize each treatment to exactly what the body is asking for. He calls it needle-less acupuncture; using diluted essential oils on reflexology points on the feet or along the Chinese meridians of the body. For the first time ever, I started feeling like a "normal" healthy person. My friends started getting amazing results as well. It was then that I wondered - can I do this too? I want to help more of my friends achieve wellness.
I took a connectology class from Adam to get the basic understanding of how to do (and understand) what it is he does. Then I enrolled in a massage therapy school to begin my journey and get the proper licensing, and understanding of anatomy and physiology. During this time, I was introduced to Red Light therapy by a massage therapist and began researching the benefits of light therapies. I also was introduced to the Bars therapy by a former classmate and independently took a class to learn how to facillitate a session. Of course, I was learning massage therapy in school and I graduated with a 4.0 GPA in June 2014. I plan to continue my education to enhance my knowledge of each of these areas.
I slowly transformed my photography studio into a therapy room and opened my practice primarily to friends, family, and former photography clients. Witnessing the transformation in health for others was very rewarding to say the least. In early 2015, we left Tennessee and moved to Lakewood, Colorado. All of my therapies had to take a bit of a hiatus as we got situated, settled, moved again, and resettled.
In January of 2016, I became a Certified Light Therapist and began working with the company In Light Wellness Systems. These devices are FDA cleared for reducing pain and inflammation, and increasing circulation. I now have a therapy for just about anyone's needs!
